We celebrated the official prize giving already yesterday evening. Since the weather forcast had been very negativ for today the championship organizer decided to forward the ceremony and include that into the pilots reception. IGC Referee, Brian Spreckly, closed the 4. FAI Sailplane Grand Prix officially. Therefore we enjoyed the evening a lot with some music and dancing afterwards.

Some pilots and crews take the chance to visit the sailplane producer ”Schleicher” in Poppenhausen.

Competition director Hanno Obermayer is on the way to the second briefing. As cloudbase is still lower than Wasserkuppe and the airmass moving towards us is rather worse he will cancel the day. At the same time the results become official, meaning the ranking is final.

At 6 pm the official opening of the “Kaiserdenkmal” in Poppenhausen will be held. Afterwards all gran prix participants and crew are invited for the graduation ball in he township hall of Poppnehausen, “Von Steinrück-Haus” at 7:30 pm.

It’s seems to be foggy day. Our weatherman can be find behind his notebook, looking for the weatherinformation for today. He doesn’t seems to be very happy….

The approaches were again very exciting. In addition we could watch people “outland” on the tracking system. Only 8 pilots landed here on the airfield. One of them, MC Cristof Matkowski, used the engine to get the last few meters height. The first valid finisher was CT Giorgio Galetto. As 77  Sebastian Nägel did not get points today Giorgio is in the loverall lead too. Carlos Rocca reached the airfield as the second pilot. I was very happy for him because he outlanded yesterda. On third place today: Tilo Holighaus who put up a great fight. He was low twice, very low!

Today Alena Netusilova got her first points in this competition too.

The best fight today: M6 Uli Schwenk. From my sightseeing point on the tower I could see him ridgesoar much, much lower than the airfield. Then he flew past us – invisible for all of us – and soared with the modell fliers up to the hight he needed for a valid approach!

Tomorrow the weather will be very much like today says or Meteorologist. Wouldn’t that be great?

Tilo Holighaus is in trouble and searching for a climb. Non of the closest pilots has final glid – yet!

We thing that David Jansen is down.

Hubert Jentsch, many times german glider aerobatic champion is showing a program on ASK 21 over Wasserkuppe but many spectators are filling Hangar 7 to watch the exciting fight on the big screen.

The next pilots have taken the turn and try now to catch up with the leading 3 planes.

77, Sebastian Nägel flies all alone to the east of the rest.

The french Didier Hauss is very low…

M3, the austrian Edi Supersperger is in front but low. He has to take a very weak thermal.  Luckily his thermal improves to 1 m/s now. but the gaggle passes him to the east.

They have to fly 128 in not so very good conditions.

He is followed by WS, PS, KOS and JS before the next 5 will be pushed over the road.

M3, 77, MC, GT and AX will be next on tow.

Then LR, DID, AJ, PC, VV, CC, Alb und M6, Uli Schwenk,who is the last one on tow today. He is ranked third so far and we hope he will not be the last one to land this afternoon.

Many spectators have found their way to the Wasserkuppe. Due to the many postponements they had a good chance to look at the many new gliders the manufacturers have placed on the edge of the airfield.

The first one on tow today will be the second in the overall ranking, Giorgio Galetto from Bolzano Italia. He will be followed by WS, PS and KOS. Nevertheless, first launch was just postponed again till 15:00.

Moist air moves into our area from the north. Flying will be even more difficult  than expected.

For the time being I doubt that they can start at 12:00

The task for today is a 132 km triangle from here to Rimberg and via Philipstal and again Huhnrain back. On the task sheet the possible first launch is set to 12:00 but Walter  Hermann thinks that today we will have to wait a bit.

All day manufacturers will show off their products. Right now a trailer of DG arrives, an Arcus has already arrived yesterday.

Of course the pilots will race for us again and in the evening OSTIV-Präsident Loek Boermans, the man who is responsible for many modern wing progfiles, will award the OSTIV price and the Morelli Price.

Everywhere outside preparations are made for a possible day 5. The scale is ready in the hangar and the desk outside is filled with the prepared trackers.

The sky looks grey this morning but the mid-level clouds will dissipate and in the afternoon cu will develope. Possible climb rates could be up to 2m/s but patches of high clouds could influence the weather.

Well, let us hope!

In the office yesterday’s results are discussed and today’s task prepared.

Weatherman Walter Herrmann thinks that we will fly again tomorrow even though the unstable and moist air will be influencing us still.

There are still many spectators on the Wasserkuppe as the show of the modell gliders will go on at least till 17:00.

Tomorrow a visit on Wasserkuppe does not only promise the excitement of the Grand Prix. It is also the day of German Glider Manufacturers who will show off their newest gliders.

I joined the cheering crowd at the prize giving ceremony while David Jansen and Carlos Rocca finally reached the airfield too.

LR must have pushed too hard. He was in the leading group only a few kilomters out and arrives only now!

ALB is back too. Not many missing now.

One of the Austrians, Edy Supersberger and the two Overseespilots are still fighting.

PC and CT will be second and third but it was so close that I can’t say who is what! Uli Schwenk is also in the points.

Nobody knows who will be first.

They need some more meters and circle directly here! Some have released water to climb better.

A group of 8 are approaching us from the north.

They are flying along the road to Hilders.

Peter Hartmann is also with the leaders. His tracker does not calculate the distance correctly.
